**Quick correction!! The 3V3 pin is 3.3V output not 3V. No idea why I said 3V haha doh! The HMC 3.3V output is great for connecting other peripherals like the MPU series as they are 3.3V VCC**
The HMC5883L are becoming very popular at places like eBay, Sparkfun, Hobbyking, ect. They are very inexpensive and the HMC is very cool for the price!

Here is a detailed tutorial on how to get the HMC from the package, to reading values via your Arduino!
